Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)

Arm Lift, is a surgical procedure performed to remove loose skin and excess fat deposits in the upper arm. Over time or after significant weight loss, the upper arms can begin to sag and carry excess skin. Many people complain that they feel self-conscious about this condition and refrain from wearing sleeveless shirts or strapless gowns as a result. Arm lift surgery can correct excess, sagging tissue and reduce the circumference of the upper arms, to greatly improve body shape. Changing the contour of the arms can require both liposuction and surgical removal of excess skin. For moderate skin removal, a small, hidden incision in the armpit is used. For removal of large amounts of skin, an incision from the elbow to the armpit is required. The incision is thin and placed in the most inconspicuous location possible. Patients may experience some tightness in the arms and some temporary swelling afterwards. Recovery time will vary, but arms and hands typically regain normal function over the course of about 2-3 weeks and patients can typically return to work in 7-14 days.
